Departing from the port, your tour will start by heading into the heart of Belfast. The city was founded in the 17th century and prospered in the industrial age, becoming famous for its shipyards and linens. Belfast has seen decades of political strife but has rebounded and now boasts a vibrant waterfront district and lively pub scene. Your guided panoramic drive takes you past a host of popular sights including the stately Grand Opera House, the Albert Memorial Clock Tower and the Queen’s University. You will pass the City Hall, photo opportunity and a chance for your guide to tell you about Belfast showing it’s wealth at the turn of the 20th century. An ornate building completed in 1906, surrounded by a square that is home to a statue of Queen Victoria and the marble figure of Thane, the Titanic Memorial. Your drive will take you to the infamous areas of Shankill Road (Protestant) and the Falls Road (Catholic), where a series of brightly painted political murals are located. Belfast City Hall Queen’s University
Your tour continues with a visit to the Victorian-era Crumlin Road Gaol, which first opened its gates to prisoners in 1846 and was a fully operational prison for 150 years. Walk through this historic building, now completely renovated, with a guide from the Gaol and step back into its eerie past, entering the cells that housed prisoners of old and the underground tunnel which used to connect the Gaol to the Courthouse.
